Rep. Crank Votes in Favor of the Fix Our Forests Act
WASHINGTON – Today, Congressman Jeff Crank (CO-05) voted in favor of the Fix Our Forests Act, which passed the House. In response, the Congressman has released the following statement:
“Colorado Springs is no stranger to wildfires,” said Rep. Crank. “Pikes Peak is still recovering from the Hayman Fire which killed five firefighters, one civilian, and destroyed over 100 homes. The Fix our Forests Act will cut through environmental red tape to make it easier for forest managers to conduct fire prevention activities.”
Background:
Congressman Crank is an original cosponsor of the Fix Our Forests Act.
The Fix Our Forests Act encourages active forest management and community safety by expediting environmental reviews and blocking needless legal roadblocks by activist organizations.
The bill will:
- Simplify and expedite environmental reviews for forest management projects
- Make communities more resilient to wildfires by better coordinating existing grant programs and promoting new research
- Deter frivolous litigation that delays essential projects
Create a framework for prioritizing treatments in the forests at the highest risk of wildfire
