Rep. Crank Votes to Help Keep Illegals Out of U.S., Requires DHS to Report National Security Risks

June 26, 2025

WASHINGTON - Today, Rep. Jeff Crank (CO-05) voted in favor of H.R. 275, the Special Interest Alien Reporting Act of 2025.

Under the last administration, millions of illegal aliens poured across our border, many of whom pose significant risks to U.S. national security. This bill would require the Secretary of Homeland Security to produce regular reports on non-U.S. nationals of special interest who pose a risk to national security and attempt to enter the United States illegally.

"Under the disastrous policies of the Biden-Harris Administration, dangerous criminal illegal aliens entered our country from adversarial nations," said Rep. Crank. "We saw an increase of illegals from countries like China, Iran and Russia - some of our country's biggest threats. This bill will improve our national security by requiring DHS to publish monthly reports on the number of Special Interest Aliens trying to enter our country illegally."

Background:

  • H.R. 275 improves national security by requiring DHS to publish monthly reports on the number of Special Interest Aliens attempting to unlawfully enter the U.S.
  • A Special Interest Alien is a non-U.S. person who, based on an analysis of travel patterns, potentially poses a national security risk to the U.S. or its interests.
  • Under the Biden Administration, an unprecedented number of Special Interest Aliens from outside the Western Hemisphere, including from adversarial nations like China, Iran, and Russia, illegally crossed America’s borders.
    • U.S. Border Patrol apprehensions of Chinese nationals surged to 37,976 in 2023 alone.
    • By the end of 2022, Customs and Border Protection recorded roughly 75,000 Special Immigrant Alien encounters.
